Important information about Silver Lake's Communication System

The ALERTNOW system has proven to be a valuable tool for us to communicate weather delays and closings with parents and employees. On January 29th, we experienced a fast moving winter storm that led to the decision to have a late start after many people had already left home. Since we wanted to communicate with everyone as soon as possible, we classified this situation as an emergency, and we had the ALERTNOW system dial the emergency numbers on file for each student and employee of the district. There is always the potential for a similar fast moving winter storm to move through in the afternoon hours, and if we should ever have to dismiss students early due to weather conditions, we would also classify this situation as an emergency.
Remember that in an emergency situation, all numbers on file with our ALERTNOW system will be dialed simultaneously. If you haven’t done so already, please inform everyone listed at your emergency numbers that they may receive phone calls during emergency events. Other than fast moving storms that lead to late starts or early dismissals, other emergency events would include any type of lockdown or evacuation situation.
There are two types of messages we can send through the ALERTNOW system: normal priority or emergency. In the event of a normal priority ALERTNOW phone call, the number at the high school (402-756-6611) will be displayed on the caller ID, and only your primary phone number will be called. In the event of an emergency ALERTNOW phone call, the number 411 will be displayed on the caller ID, and your primary number along with all of your emergency phone numbers will be called simultaneously.
In the future, an e-mail will also be sent through the ALERTNOW system in an emergency situation. Please listen carefully to all ALERTNOW information calls, and if you miss any information in the message, either call the school hotline at 402-756-6616 or check the school website at www.silverlakemustangs.org. All delays and cancellations due to weather are posted on the hotline and on the website immediately.
If you feel you need to update your information with the ALERTNOW information system, please pick up an ALERTNOW information sheet from Janet at the elementary or from Cleo at the high school.
