April 29, 2008
Decked out in business attire, 18 members and 2 sponsors of the Silver Lake FBLA Chapter loaded up two van fulls and headed to Omaha for the annual State Leadership Conference on Thursday, April 3. The event was a three day conference at the Holiday Inn where FBLA chapters from around the state met up to take tests, listen to keynote speakers and seminars, and socialize with others.
The event kicked off with a general session where state officers welcomed everyone. Then new officer hopefuls stepped up to the stage and presented why they should be elected for the next year's offices. After an hour of recognition and awards, members were released on their way to go take tests and attend seminars. The following day, students continued taking tests and had a formal caucus that night for the officer candidates. Following the caucus, honorable mentions were announced for those who placed in the top five percent during testing. This year, Baili Klein got an award in Business Calculations, Kevin Hall in Keyboarding Knowledge, and Jenae Parr in Proofreading. This was then followed off by a dance that ended at midnight.
On Saturday morning, students met up again for the second general session. This was also full of recognitions and awards. The top eight in all the tests were announced during this. The chapter was able to pull off a couple of places with Melissa Klein getting 8th in Computer Concepts and Ronny Sorensen got third in Intro to Technology Concepts. With a third place finish, Ronny qualified to attend nationals in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 25th - 30th, 2008. Wish him luck!
Congratulations to our FBLA members on these great finishes!
