Close Up 2008
Students See our Nation's Capital
June 16, 2008
On June 1, 2008, 10 students went to Washington D.C. and spent 7
days
touring D.C., Georgetown and Williamsburg, VA. A few of the
sights
included were Lincoln, FDR and Thomas Jefferson Monuments,
Capitol,
Library of Congress, and Colonial Williamsburg.
On Wednesday, everyone toured the Capitol, meet with Ben Nelson,
Adrian
Smith, and Chuck Hagel. During some free time, they witnessed the
"Green
the Vaccine" March on the front lawn of the Capitol. Jim Carrey and
Jenny
McCarthy were heading up the march.
While in Williamsburg, they participated in a play, "Cry Witch".
The
students were on the High Jury during this witch trial. Everyone in
the
Williamsburg courtroom participated in the 1700's court trial.
The students made many new friends from all over the United
States while
participating in several government information work shops and
group
meetings.
The students who participated in this Close-up Washington trip
were:
Alarissa Borja, Reid Choquette, Molly Conner, Brock Grabill, Sarah
Klein,
Mark Lutkemeier, McKenzie Mangers, Jessica Monroe, Connor Morris,
and Jami
Shaw.
