Class of 2009…

A Graduating Family

by Chloe Gibson

May 18, 2009

Silver Lake held its 2009 graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 9th, 2009, where they released 24 students educated and prepared for "the real world". The celebration began at four that afternoon and was filled with both tearful and joyful speeches and the presentation of scholarships.

The National Honor Society members each took the stage and read their version of their experiences from high school, and how they feel these experiences affected them personally, as well as talking about what they are anticipating for tomorrow. Speakers included Caitlin Bruckman, McKenzie Mangers, Betsy Battreall (who earned the Salutatorian honors), Mark Lutkemeier (who was given the title of Class Valedictorian), and Molly Connor.

The class motto: “Nothing lasts forever, so live it up, laugh it off, avoid the drama, take chances, and never have regrets, because at one point, everything you did was exactly what you wanted” was one that fit the class well.  Their class song was “We Weren’t Crazy” by Josh Gracin, and their class colors were: royal blue, purple, and silver.  The gym was decorated in the class' chosen flower of a white rose tipped in blue with a purple ribbon. Class officers included President - Jessica Monroe, Vice President - Caitlin Bruckman, Secretary - Betsy Battreall, and Treasurer - Jami Shaw.

With all of the students headed their separate ways on Saturday, May 4th, the rest of the students are left behind until Thursday, May 21st, when school will "release" the rest of the students.  We wish the graduating seniors the best of luck as each of them go their own ways to attend college and join the work force.
