by Dana Epley
July 01, 2009
Silver Lake junior Ronny Sorensen and senior Betsy Battreall qualified to attend the National Leadership Conference for Future Business Leaders of America from June 23rd-29th in Anaheim, California. Ronny qualified for the second straight year, qualifying this year in Computer Applications and also took an open test in Advertising while Betsy qualified for her first time in Spreadsheet Applications and took an open test in Leadership. Sorensen and Battreall were among 250 students and sponsors to attend the national conference from Nebraska.
This was the second year that students from Silver Lake have qualified for and attended the conference with their sponsor, Dana Epley.
These two students are to be commended for making it to the
national level. Benefits from attending the conference included
attending national seminars and workshops in the business field,
and networking with others from across the United States. Outside
of workshops, seminars, and taking tests at the national level, the
students were also able to attend DisneyLand and go to the beach -
which they might not have had the chance to experience
otherwise.
Ronny is the son of Rod & Carolyn Sorensen of Hastings,
Nebraska, and will be a senior this fall at Silver Lake High
School. Betsy Battreall is the daughter of Cindy McBride of
Holstein, Nebraska, and plans to attend UNK and major in
education.
Once the students and their sponsor arrived in Los Angeles and checked into their hotel, they headed to the beach for the late afternoon & evening. The remainder of the week was filled with workshops, seminars, and testing, outside of attending DisneyLand part of two days. Students and their sponsor returned on Monday, June 29th.
Congratulations to Ronny and Betsy on a fantastic job at the
state and national level, as well as their leadership as FBLA
officers during the 2008-2009 school year. Betsy was the
president this past school year, while Ronny will be president
during the 2009-2010 school year.
