OMAHA – A group of 40 high school sophomores who one day may
aspire to become computer scientists or engineers got an insider’s
perspective this week at the eleventh annual Academy of Excellence
program at The Peter Kiewit Institute.
The students were selected from among nominees submitted by high
schools across the state of Nebraska and were accompanied by their
favorite math, science or computer teacher.
The Holland Academy of Excellence is funded with the support of the Dick and Mary Holland Foundation and is offered free to the participants. Their only expense is transportation to and from PKI. The students and their teachers were able to take part in workshops covering technology, robotics, engineering and electronics. They also made behind-the-scenes visits to PKI’s ZNETH, Lozier IMAX Theatre, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo, Durham Museum and the Strategic Air and Space Museum.
