Celebrating a New School Year

Every month in the year has a certain day that always highlights the entire month for you when you think of that month. For example, when you think of December, you think of Christmas. In February, you think of Valentine’s Day. Well, for most students, the day in August that is most remembered is the day they start back to school. In this case, this is not the “highlight” of the month necessarily, but the day that entire month centers around. In years past, just like this year, Silver Lake Jr. – Sr. High School treats their students to an extra special event to make this month something to look forward to: the annual Back-To-School Party. This is the first student get-together of the year, getting kids to re-connect and talk about their visions for the upcoming school year.
After four long days of school, on Friday the 21st of August, the school once again treated the students to a night of swimming at the Hastings Aqua Court and to a meal at Godfathers. The administration added something new by taking the students to get ice cream at McDonalds following the pizza meal, and them also to see a movie at the Imperial as well. The students had their choice of the action film, “GI Joe” or the romantic film “The Time Traveler’s Wife”.
Following a night of swimming, food, more food, and a movie, the students had bonded, ate, and enjoyed each other’s company for several hours. A big “thanks!” to the administration for this night and to the 80 students who attended.
