Cleaning Up Our Community

One PIece at a Time

by Reporter Bailey Morris

September 21, 2009

On Wednesday, September 16th, Silver Lake’s Student Council and FBLA Organizations held a trash pick-up outside Roseland.

Mrs. Hinrichs, Student Council Sponsor, and Mrs. Epley, FBLA Sponsor, chauffeured around thirty-eight anxious students to the Roseland Avenue and Highway 74 ditches to help clean up their community. They departed the high school at 9:15 AM after filling up on delicious doughnuts brought by their thoughtful sponsor, Mrs. Epley.

These groups sponsor two trash pick-ups per year as part of their community service project. The kids returned home around 10:30 AM after filling every trash bag provided to them by the county -  full of pop bottles and fast food paper bags, along with a few other, for lack of a better word, strange items.

The next FBLA activities will be the Junior High Volleyball Tournament on October 3rd in Bladen and the Red Cross Blood Drive on October 7th at the high school gym in Roseland from 12 – 6 PM.  We have set our goal at 50 units of blood – so we welcome previous and new donors – please call the high school to set up your appointment!
