Mrs. Heldt's Geometry Class Takes on New Heights

by Dana Epley

October 15, 2009

On Monday, October 5th, 2009, ten brave students built 9-inch tall buildings using only 25 manila folders. There were three positions - the building designer, the height designer, and the strength designer. The objective was to make your building so it holds at least 25 pounds. But there were some students who went to the next level. The first group was Annie Wickham, Megan Blumenthal, and Morgan Hill. The next group was Amy Trausch, Stef Perez, and Candy Gomez. The third group was Colin Smith, Kris Dewey, and Michael Hinrichs. Alex Gomez was an independent. Monday, October 12th, the class went into the weight room and tested their works of art. In order of most weight held, Alex Gomez took the top honors with 680 pounds, Amy's group had 390, Annie’s had 290, and Colin’s group held a whopping 60 pounds.
