Mustangs Take on Heartland Lutheran on the Road
Girls are Now 2-0, Boys are 1-1

On Saturday, December 5th, 2009 the Silver Lake girls and boys basketball teams packed their gear for their first on-the-road game, heading to Grand Island to play the Heartland Lutheran Hornets. The varsity girls’ game proved to be one for the younger players to gain experience early in the season.
Before clearing the bench, the starters put numbers on the board as follows: Senior Cami Bruckman led the Mustangs with 24 points while senior Kayla Timm led the team with nine rebounds. Junior Bailey Morris and Senior Shelby Rupprecht led the team in assists with six and five, respectively. After making their mark, the younger Mustangs came in to finish out the game by the score of 83-19. This game also gave head coach Mr. Keith Crowe his 200th win. With two games under their belt, the team is now 2-0.
The second varsity game of the night was the boys’ team taking on Heartland Lutheran as well. The Mustangs put up a hard-fought battle, but was unable to overcome the Hornets, losing by the score of 54-75. Leading the Mustang men was Junior Jake Polk, who scored 16 points. Senior Nate Kosse led the team with ten rebounds.
Both the Mustang teams will be in action again on Friday, December 11, 2009, on the road against Bruning-Davenport. The home game that was scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th, against Axtell has been postponed until later in the regular season.
