Lady 'Stangs Bust Out a Win in Opener

Mustangs Prove Why They Are Rated #1

by Ronny Sorensen

December 06, 2009

Opening up the season ranked number one coming off of a state-runner up last year, the Lady Mustangs had to prove themselves against the Deshler Dragons.  Last year, the Mustangs went 3-1 against the Dragons including a double overtime win in the state tournament last year.  This year was a little different though with the Mustangs clinching the win early on in the game.  By the end of the game, the Mustangs had secured a 19-point win.

The ‘Stangs came out strong early in the game and put it away in the first quarter, going up 21-9.  The ladies continued to pound on top of their lead, going into the locker room with a 38-17 lead.

The Dragons came out stronger in the second half; out scoring the Lady Mustangs by two, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mustang lead.  After the final buzzer the Mustangs came out on top with a 67-48 win to start out the season 1-0.  “Judging by the score, it was a great way to start off the season,” summed up senior starter Chloe Gibson, “but I think we still have a lot of things to work on.”

Senior Cami Bruckman led the team on offense, netting 15 points.  Other high scorers were Shelby Rupprecht and Kayla Timm, both picking up 10 points.
