Lady Mustangs Win Holiday Tourney
7-Year Streak of Winning
Silver Lake Downs Shelton and Bruning/Davenport
Tradition seems to continue for the Lady Mustangs as they won the Holiday Tournament for the seventh year in a row. Silver Lake took on the Shelton Bulldogs in the first round, winning and making it into the championship, where they would take on the Bruning/Davenport Storm.
In the first round match up against the Bulldogs, Silver Lake found themselves leading the whole game, winning with a final score of 27 to 55. Cami Bruckman led the Mustangs with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Shelby Rupprecht followed with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. Bailey Morris added 9 points, and Kayla Timm had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Morris also grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. Chloe Gibson put up 5 points and 4 rebounds.
In the championship game, the Lady Mustangs took on the Lady Storm again. The Mustangs didn’t come out strong and the score at the end of the first quarter found the team up by only one point, 8 to 9. The team came alive in the second quarter, outscoring the Storm 3 to 21, making the score 30 to 11 at halftime. The second half seemed to be a continuation of the second quarter instead of the first, and the team won the game, 31 to 62.
Bruckman led the team with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals. Timm followed with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Rupprecht added in 11 points while Morris and Grabill both had 6 and dished out 3 assists. Morris also had 3 steals. Senior Carmi Grigg grabbed 6 rebounds.
After winning the championship, the Lady Mustangs improved their record to 7-0, remaining undefeated going into the new year. “After such a long layoff, I was concerned about playing a very good Shelton team. We started slow, but played well in the second half to win the game. In the championship game, Bruning/Davenport slowed the game down. We increased our intensity to get the tempo up to where we like to play. I was very pleased with winning our 7th Silver Lake Holiday Classic Championship in a row,” quoted head coach Keith Crowe.
