Lady Mustangs Trounce Raiders to Remain Undefeated

Silver Lake Heads into Conference Tournament with Perfect Record

by Bailey Morris

February 01, 2010

Though the Silver Lake Lady Mustangs are accustomed to putting away their opponents in the first half, Friday night’s game was just the opposite. Facing one of their Conference rivals, the Class D-2 No. 7 Lawrence/Nelson Raiders, the Mustangs came out a little flat and rather nervous. However, with a second half turn around, the girls pulled away and cruised to a 47-28 victory.

That nervousness in the first half became an advantage for the Raiders, as the Mustangs shot only 28% from the field and 22% from beyond the arc. On the bright end of the first half for the Mustangs, they were able to sink 6 of 9 free-throws to contribute to their side of the scoreboard. When the buzzer sounded, the ‘Stangs headed into the locker room with a comfortable eight point lead.

Long time head coach Keith Crowe must have given quite the half time speech because the Lady Mustangs came out on fire, going on a 13-3 run in the 3rd quarter, almost completely shutting down the Raiders. They increased both their field goal shooting and long range shooting percentages, and were a perfect 2-2 on the charity stripe in the second half.

Junior Bailey Morris lead the Mustangs with 16 points and 6 assists. She also grabbed 6 rebounds while senior Cami Bruckman put up 14 points, and senior Shelby Rupprecht brought down 8 rebounds and marked 6 points to help lead the Mustangs to victory.
Seeded #1 in the Twin Valley Conference Tournament, the Silver Lake Mustangs will face the winner of the play-in game, either the Red Cloud Warriors or the Bruning/Davenport Storm. The Mustangs hope to defend their two-time TVC champion title at the end of this week. Good luck, Lady Mustangs!
