Silver Lake Elementary Compete at Elementary Quiz Bowl

Eight eager 5th and 6th grade students traveled to CCC for the ESU#9 Elementary Quiz Bowl on Tuesday. The tournament was a double elimination tournament with forty teams participating. Sixth grade members included Randa Klein, Syd Skupa, Levi Plambeck and Morgan Stromer. Fifth grade team members were Corey Conway, Skyler Ericsson, Miranda Erickson and Brendan Reed.
The Mustangs competed well and won the first match of the day against the Doniphan-Trumbull Red team, 65 to 5. Levi Plambeck dominated the match, answering 5 toss up questions with the team getting 4 bonuses correct.
In the next match for Silver Lake, Levi and Corey both answered a toss-up question only to be defeated by Hampton.
Dropping into the consolation brackets after the loss, the Silver Lake Team defeated Doniphan-Trumbull Red for a second time winning 60 to 25 with Levi, Corey, and Syd each answering toss up questions.
Levi, Corey and Syd again answered toss-up questions for the team to defeat Hawthorne soundly, 40 to 5.
In the next match for Silver Lake, Corey and Levi each answered a toss up question, but this was to no avail as Alcott defeated the Mustangs, 70 to 10.
The day was a great learning experience with the team gaining confidence and finishing 3-2 for the day.
