The Lady Mustangs wanted to do something that no other girl’s basketball team at Silver Lake has ever done before—end the regular season undefeated. Playing Giltner on Thursday, February 11th, was the last step to fulfill this goal.
Silver Lake was ahead at the end of the first quarter with the score being 21 to 10, never trailing throughout the game. The Mustangs outscored the Hornets every quarter of the game, and the final score being 70 to 33. Mission accomplished! The Lady Mustangs just made history, and accomplished their goal of going 20-0 on the season.
Senior Cami Bruckman led the Mustangs with a personal record and season high of 24 points. Next in the stats was senior Shelby Rupprecht, who contributed 19 points to the Mustang victory. Rupprecht also led in rebounds with 9, and freshman Mackenzie Skupa, senior Chloe Gibson, and senior Kayla Timm all came in with sex rebounds for the Mustangs.
Senior Cami Bruckman commented on the game saying, “This is a big deal for not only our team - but for our school’s history. We went undefeated for the regular season, and not many teams in history have done that. We are all so excited!”
The community is also excited as the team prepares for Sub-District action, which begins for the team on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 at Grand Island Central Catholic against the winner of the Palmer v. Nebraska Christian game on Monday, February 15th. The Silver Lake team has a bye in the first round as the #1 seed, and if they win on Tuesday, February 16th, they will play again on Thursday, February 18th at 7 PM against the winner of the High Plains v. Harvard game. Good luck, Lady Mustangs!
