Once again, the Silver Lake Junior Washington group hosted the annual Silver Lake Valentine’s Classic. The tournament was held on February 13th and 14th at both Silver Lake High School in Roseland and the Silver Lake Elementary in Bladen. This year the tournament consisted of a total of 18 teams. Four teams were in the 5th and 6th grade girls division, four teams in the 5th and 6th grade boys division, six teams in the 7th and 8th grade girls division, and four teams in the 7th and 8th grade boys division.
Each team was guaranteed to play three games and the top teams in each division received medals. In the 5th and 6th grade girls division, Silver Lake place first, Kenesaw received second, and Adams Central Blue placed third. In the 5th and 6th grade boys division, first place went to the Minden Dawgs, second place went to the Minden Sharpshooters and third place went to Wilcox/Hildreth. In the junior high girls division, first place was Hastings Charter, second was Giltner, third was Thayer Central, and fourth place was the Ragin’ Cagers. Finally, in the junior high boys division, first place went to Minden, second to Silver Lake, and third went to Sandy Creek, while Lawrence/Nelson received a fourth place finish.
The Washington 2010 Group would like to thank everyone for their support in helping us to raise money for our Washington D.C./Boston/New York trip, especially to Jeff Grabill. Mr. Grabill put together the tournament games and helped us a great deal with how to run the tournament. We appreciate all of his help and realize that without it, the tournament would not have been the success that it was, so THANK YOU, MR. GRABILL!
The juniors involved in Washington 2010 are Brianna Gentert, Taylor Ehrman, Sawyer Monroe, Cole Mangers, Mackenzie Kral, Jake Polk, Bailey Crowe, Megan Jacobitz, ErinPlambeck, Bailey Morris, and Kris Dewey. Sponsors for the trip are Kim Bonifas and Dana Epley.
