Jr. High Quiz Bowl Members are Academic Aces
Silver Lake Students Compete in Their Own Invite

Silver Lake High School hosted a Quiz Bowl Invite on Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 with Blue Hill and Red Cloud. The invitational competition involved both the senior and junior high levels of quiz bowl competitors. The Silver Lake Junior High team consisted of: Captain Kaitlin Schneider, Josie Parr, Tori Kissell, Rylee Morris, Seyler Monroe and Anthony Struck.
Throughout the six-round event, Silver Lake was victorious five times with their only loss coming at the hands of Blue Hill. The Mustangs opened with a very decisive win over Red Cloud with the final score being 50 to 10. Kaitlin Schneider answered two toss-up questions while Rylee and Tori answered one toss-up each sending the team into the bonus question opportunities.
The Mustangs then went on to defeat the Blue Hill Bobcats by a score of 65 to 0 with the seventh grade team members dominating. Rylee Morris and Josie Parr answered two toss-up questions each, while Seylor Monroe contributed one correct toss-up.
In the second part of the round robin tournament, Silver Lake defeated Red Cloud by a final score of 35 to 15. Kaitlin Schneider responded twice while Tori Kissell, Josie Parr and Seyler Monroe each answered one toss-up correctly.
In the next rounds, Blue Hill beat Red Cloud twice and Blue Hill and Silver Lake went one and one.
The Silver Lake Junior High Quiz Bowl team ended their season with this invite. Coach Joni Heuertz said, “Students showed improvement throughout the season. They’ve learned the benefits of taking risks and enjoyed a successful year.”
