Lady Mustangs Place 3rd at State Basketball Tournament
Defeating Humphrey 47-38 in the Consolation Game at State

March 07, 2010
After easily defeating the #8-seeded Brady in the first-round of play on Thursday, March 4th, by the score of 59-30, the Mustangs headed into the second-round of action on Friday, March 5th, 2010, in Lincoln for the 2010 Girls State Basketball Tournament.
The Mustangs found themselves up against the #5-seeded Elkhorn Valley at Pershing on Friday, where they lost a hard-fought battle by the score of 62-51, to end up in the consolation game on Saturday, March 6th, 2010. While this was not the game that the undefeated, #1-seeded team dreamed of being in while in Lincoln, it was one that many other teams in the state would have been elated to be in and the communities couldn't have been prouder of the team's until-now undefeated record. The team should hold their heads high in regard to their season and their come-from-behind victory on Saturday to receive third place in the State Tournament.
The consolation game was held at Lincoln High School at noon on Saturday, and this game found the top two seeds of the tournament playing each other. The final score of the #1-seeded Silver Lake team and the #2-rated Humphrey team might lead a person to believe that the Mustangs won the game rather handily. However, this was not the case, as the Lady Mustangs found themselves down at the half, and trailing most of the game, before showing the Bulldogs why they came into the tournament as the #1 seed. The fourth quarter "sealed the deal" for the ladies of Silver Lake, as they went on to win the game, 47-38, and received their medals and third-place trophy at the conclusion of the tournament from the NSAA.
More details of the tournament as well as statistics of the season will be featured later this week. We are so proud of the Silver Lake Lady Mustangs' phenomenal season and tournament appearance. With a runner-up trophy last year, and a 3rd place trophy this year, the team has accomplished so much more than many other teams have ever dreamed of accomplishing - and especially in back-to-back years. With only three losses last year, and one this year, the team has so much to be proud of.
A special thank you goes to our seniors who are to be commended for their outstanding leadership on the team. The following six seniors are featured with this article after receiving their medals at the State Tournament: Cami Bruckman, Chloe Gibson, Jenna Grabill, Carmi Grigg, Shelby Rupprecht, and Kayla Timm. Thank you, seniors, for all that you have done! And, thank you, to all of the Lady Mustangs for an action-packed 25-1 season, and congratulations on your finish at the State Basketball Tournament!!
