Riding the bus to Grand Island Northwest High School on Friday, February 26th, the Lady Mustangs knew they were ready to defend their perfect record. And that, is exactly what they did. They continued their twenty-three game wining streak with a 62-27 win over the Osceola Bulldogs in the D1-2 District Final game.

The Mustangs got off to a great start in the first period, outscoring Osceola 19-10 for a comfortable lead. The team followed this up with a 13-5 run in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 17 points and heading into the locker room with a large margin lead and smiles on their faces.  The Mustangs shot a whopping 57 percent from behind the arc in the first half to go along with 61 percent shooting from the field.
After a motivational pep talk from long time head coach Keith Crowe, the Mustangs came out fired up and ready to play. They used their run-and-gun style of play and great outside shooting to put away the Bulldogs in the third quarter, outscoring them 19-8. The girls also shot a perfect 100 percent from the charity stripe in the second half to help win the game that would send them to state.
Senior Cami Bruckman and junior Bailey Morris led the Mustangs with 16 points each, while seniors Shelby Rupprecht and Kayla Timm added 10 points a piece. Timm led the team in rebounds with 7, while senior Chloe Gibson grabbed 6 and also had 4 points. Morris led the team with assists and steals, with 7 each.

"It just feels great going into State undefeated," said Junior Bailey Morris. "We have worked hard all season long for this and we're ready to go out and compete."
With the win over the Bulldogs, the Mustangs advance to the State Basketball Tournament in Lincoln, and will face the Brady Eagles at North Star High School on Thursday, March 4th, at 2pm. Good Luck, Lady Mustangs!
