On Friday, April 29th twenty-three of the 4th graders loaded the charter bus and waited for their arrival to Lincoln for their field trip. For a few of them even going to the capital city for the first time. The Silver Lake’s third grade class was in for an adventure on May 3rd! They went to the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island and learned about many different things. For the first two hours of the morning they learned about the Pawnee Way of Life. They first learned that the males were the hunters of deer and buffalo and the women would set up teepees then they would have to go and get the animals that they men shot with their bow and . . .
After being postponed from Saturday to Monday, the Mustangs were relieved to run in the sunshine rather than the rain. Monday proved to be a successful day for both the boys in the girls with seven Silver Lake tracksters taking home medals. The Silver Lake golf team went to Red Cloud for the Cyndi Piel Memorial golf tournament hosted by Blue Hill on Tuesday April 26. Team members Reid Parr and Jared Lewis scrambled together for the front 9 holes with a total of 51. They did much better on the back 9 shooting 45 for an eighteen round total of 96. For the first time in Silver Lake School History, the Silver Lake Journalism Department submitted, qualified, and placed at the NSAA State Journalism competition this past week. To qualify for the state competition the students had to have an advisor submit their entries in. On Tuesday, April 19 the Silver Lake Mustangs track and field team traveled to Blue Hill. The track meet went by fairly fast because there were only 4 other teams there: Blue Hill, Lawrence-Nelson, Doniphan-Trumbull, and Osborne, Kansas. On Saturday April 16, the senior Future Problem Solvers team traveled to Kearney for the annual State Future Problem Solvers Bowl. Silver Lake elementary students rocked all night long at their annual spring concert on April 18, 2016. The theme for this concert was Rock ‘N’ Roll and featured many classic rock songs from the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s.
