On Wednesday, February 29th, 2012, Silver Lake Art Teacher Mrs. Trish Hinrichs, along with nine independent art students, traveled to Omaha to attend the Annual Scholastic Art Awards of Nebraska Exhibition. Megan Blumenthal, Dalton Davis, Morgan Hill, Colin Smith, Alex Shaw, Mackenzie Skupa, Nikki Blumenthal, Cheyene O' Flannagan, and Laurann Boyd were the independent art students who went on this field trip.
The group departed from the high school at 7:15 in the morning and stopped at Ampride in Hastings for breakfast. The group then headed off and arrived in Omaha around 10:30 a.m. The art show was held at the Omaha Public School Administration Building. After attending the art show, the group went to lunch at Red Robin. The group then stopped for snacks for the trip back and headed home.
Senior art student Megan Blumenthal had the following to say about the trip, "It was really fun to go all the way to Omaha for an art show! I felt that I learned a lot of new techniques that I can use in art class this final quarter." The group came home with many new ideas for their upcoming art projects. You really can make art out of anything! This show helped the students expand their ideas in the field of art. Overall, this trip was a positive learning experience for the students and Mrs. Hinrichs. A big thanks goes out to Mrs. Hinrichs for sponsoring the trip!
