Temperatures Rise for a Week...

Silver Lake students started off the Homecoming week on Monday, September with an “ugly sweater and crazy hair day.” Several students participated, as they were excited to be a part of this spirit-filled week at Silver Lake. Monday was also the day for nominations for Queen and King candidates. The results for Queen candidates were Kayla Timm, Cami Bruckman, Chloe Gibson and Jenna Grabill. Those voted in for King candidates were Nate Kosse, Jared Rathje, Luis Perez and Seth Plambeck. The seniors spent the day painting windows to celebrate their last week of Homecoming in all four communities.
Tuesday was filled “gender benders” as students dressed in clothing that was representational of the opposite sex.
Wednesday was the well-known color war day!! Each class was assigned a certain color to wear for the day with an amazing portion of the population participating!
Thursday was the day to dress-up for the theme of Homecoming, which was “Gone Hawaiian.” A majority of the students here were decked out in grass skirts and sunglasses!
Finally, Friday came, and along with it School Spirit Day. This tends to be the easiest day for both staff and students to dress up, with the school filled with maroon, white, silver and black. Girls sported football jerseys and guys wore their Silver Lake t-shirts.
The school week was completed with a pep rally. The rally began with cheerleaders announcing the Homecoming candidates, and the four students nominated making their grand entrance on one of Roseland’s fire engines driven by Scott Timm. As they entered the circle drive into the school, they threw candy to teachers, parents and students. Once everyone was inside, the activities began.
Following the pep rally was, of course, the big football game against Kenesaw.
The football boys took care of business on the field that Friday night, hosting the "Game of the Week" on Channel 5, and coming out victorious...remaining undefeated.
Following the game was the grand finale, the crowning of the King and Queen. The Queen candidates were brought onto the field in a black convertible along with the cheerleaders in a souped-up blue truck. As the King candidates helped the ladies out of the car, all of the candidates' names were announced with the crowd and the candidates both anxiously awaiting the results. Third runners-up were Cami Bruckman and Jared Rathje, second runners-up were Chloe Gibson and Nate Kosse, first runners-up were Jenna Grabill and Luis Perez, leaving the King and Queen to be Seth Plambeck and Kayla Timm. Congratulations to the school on a successful and exciting Homecoming week enjoyed by all!
The festivities ended with the Homecoming Dance in the elementary gym. The deejay was loud - just the way we like it - and played all the latest tunes while the students in 7 - 12 danced the night away with their dates and friends.
I think I speak for the entire student body when I say - WHAT A GREAT WEEK! Thank you to everyone who made this week possible - especially to our cheerleaders. It was one that won't be forgotten for years to come!
