A Senior Farewell

2010 Seniors Play Their Last Regular Season Games on Silver Lake Home Court

by Chloe Gibson

October 29, 2009

It’s a time that comes for all high school athletes: your last home game.  It may not seem like a big deal to underclassmen who have time to play more games on their home field/gym, but to a senior such as myself, it can be an emotional moment.

The senior volleyball girls, consisting of Cami Bruckman, Kayla Timm, Shelby Rupprecht, Jenna Grabill, Chloe Gibson and Jennifer Mahoney, were announced at the Silver Lake Quadrangular on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009, as the seniors who were playing their last volleyball game in their home gym.  Some of the girls were happy and excited; others let a few tears fall.  However each girl reacted, we all knew that it was a life-changing moment as we realized that the end of our volleyball season was not the only thing that would soon be coming to an end.  Good luck to these girls as they finish their volleyball season, and their high school playing career!  Beginning Monday, November 2nd, these same girls will begin their sub-district action, and from that point on, one loss means the end of the season – so all of us will be doing our best to ensure that the season is as long as possible, and we would appreciate your support as well!

The night after these senior girls were announced, our boys were given their time to say good-bye to their home field for the regular season – knowing that they would again see this field the following week in state play-off action.  Nate Kosse, Seth Plambeck, Connor Hansen, Kevin Hall, Jared Rathje, Luis Perez and Dylan Pritchard are the outgoing seniors for this 2009 football season, with Ronny Sorensen being the senior statistician.  I believe that each of the senior boys would also tell you that they will never forget the time they have spent on this field, and all of the hard work and dedication they have put into the Silver Lake Mustangs football program.  These boys have ended their high school football season on a high note, again qualifying for state play-off action, and this time being seeded high enough that they will be hosting the first round on Thursday, October 29th, against Eustis-Farnam at 4 PM in Bladen.  Make sure to come and see these boys in action as they also know that one loss in post-season means the end of their high school football career as well – the louder we are, the longer their season will continue!

Congratulations to both the boys and the girls on a successful season so far, and we hope to continue cheering on these two teams for many, many more games in post-season action – it just won’t be on their home turf after this week!  GO MUSTANGS!
