The 3rd grade students have recently been exploring the importance of How-To’s. They were able to watch a How-To video, then they were given the chance to test their writing skills. Each 3rd grade student had to give step-by-step instructions on how to “Tie Your Shoes” and “Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.” After writing “How to Tie Your Shoes,” each student had to read aloud their instructions while a classmate was following their every step. Some completed the task, while others missed key important steps; like tightening the laces after making the knot! Trace Brown realized that every little step is important as he noticed, “If I miss a step, I find out that my partner doesn’t have a tied shoe!” Likewise, when they finished their “How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich,” they read aloud their steps. Many different ways were discovered; but all came out with a great PB and J sandwich! Alex Ehrman thought, “Eating them was the best part!”
