On Monday, January 11, 2010, Silver Lake’s guidance counselor, Mr. Chris Sluka, held a financial aid night for all interested junior, seniors and their parents. Despite technical difficulties, Mr. Sluka was able to inform the small group in attendance about the FASFA, scholarships, and loans available to those planning to enter college within the next year or two. Those in attendance also learned about how colleges award financial aid. Mr. Sluka showed the group websites where they could search for scholarships, as well as other types of financial aid available to incoming college freshman.
Students and parents alike learned a great deal about the financial aid process and how to get it all started – and the earlier you start, the easier your job will be. For example, the EducationQuest Foundation, one of the sites Mr. Sluka spoke of, is a valuable tool for tracking your financial aid information.
“Despite the technical difficulties, parents and students had the opportunity to gain information about the financial aid process. I want to thank everyone who attended the program,” stated Mr. Sluka. If you are an interested parent or student who was not able to attend the meeting, you are encouraged to contact Mr. Sluka at csluka@esu9.org or at (402) 756-6611. If you want more information about the EducationQuest Foundation in Kearney, you can call 1-800-666-3721. Good luck to all of the juniors and seniors preparing for college in the next 18 months – it will be here before you know it, so get started on finding your financial aid now!
