Insulation Becomes Art
by Trish Hinrichs
March 01, 2010
On February 24, 2010, Mrs Hinrichs, Kaitlin Schneider and Kila Timm attended an Art workshop. They were taught how to be creative with styrofoam insulation used in construction. Bertrand art teacher Scott Schwarz discovered a use for the insulation and shared his ideas with area art teachers.
Mrs. Hinrichs asked the two students to come prepared with an idea to make a 3D project. Kaitlin decided she was going to do a dragon and Kila started with dolphins and changed her mind several times to end with a sports theme project.
They began by drawing their ideas on paper and later transferring it onto the insulation. They used 3-4 pieces of insulation to create the 3D sculpture. The photos featured here show the students hard at work during the workshop.
