Mustangs 1-0 on the Season

August 30, 2010

On Friday, August 27th, 2010, the Mustangs faced the Dorchester Longhorns for their first match up of the season.  Four quarters later, the Mustangs had finished their first game of the season with a win.

The Mustangs set the tempo right off the whistle with a kick through the end zone by Sawyer Monroe.  As the evening continued, the Mustangs left the Longhorns with few chances to return a kickoff.

The Mustangs were the first to put points on the board with a safety forced upon the Longhorns.  The safety was soon followed up with a kickoff return.  The Mustangs went for two for the PAT and succeeded, putting the hometown team up 10-0.

The Mustangs would keep up their superiority through the third quarter, leading 24-0 going into the fourth quarter.  However, the Mustangs put their offense into stalling and the Longhorns scored once and then quickly followed it up with a second scoring drive.

Following this downturn the Mustang defense responded well and prevented any further scoring by the Longhorn Offense.  With fifteen seconds left, Cole Mangers kneeled the ball bringing the Mustangs their first win.

After the game, Coach Iverson was happy with the result and was quoted saying, “It was very positive to start the season with a win. I felt like we started the game at a very high intensity level, and this lead us to the victory. “
