Journalism Class Attends Annual Jostens Workshop

by Presley Smith

September 14, 2011

The journalism students from Silver Lake went to the annual Jostens Yearbook Workshop on Thursday, September 13, 2011, in Kearney, NE with sponsor Dana Epley. Leaving the school at 7:30 on this morning, with yearbooks in hand, the students were prepared to listen to Ryan Heffner, Jostens workshop coordinator, speak of the new designs and templates available through the online program and through Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop.  Silver Lake's yearbook was one of the few on display for a sample yearbook for other schools to look at for design ideas and layouts!  .

All ten of this year's Journalism students were able to attend the workshop, more specifically seniors Morgan Hill and Annie Wickham; juniors Jenna Thayer, Meghan Rockefeller, Mackenzie Skupa, Anna Aguirre, and Kayla Schmidt; and sophomores McKenna Erickson, Presley Smith, and Kila Timm.

The students came up with a theme for this year's yearbook and a start to their cover, which will include the wording "Color Me Different."  The theme will incorporate bright colors and animal print while covering the year's events in different colors.  If you are interested in supporting this year's yearbook staff, you can purchase a booster ad for $20; a business ad (to be featured on the school website with a link to your business' website) for $100; or a business+ ad which includes the business ad feature PLUS a full page ad in our yearbook.  If you are interested in any of these options, please contact our Journalism sponsor Dana Epley at depley@esu9.org or by calling the high school at (402) 756-6611.
