Junior High Football Team Wraps Up Season

Junior High Boys Play Last Football Game Of Year At Shelton

by Kayla Schmidt

October 22, 2011

The junior high football team's last game was against Shelton on Tuesday, October 18th, at Shelton. The final score showed Shelton winning the game by the score of 48 - 12.

Both Silver Lake touchdowns were scored by Quinten Journey.  Coach Terry Bauer stated, "The boys played hard the entire game.  Jared Lewis was sick, so playing with only nine made things interesting.  We played eight-man on defense so everyone got a ton of playing time on the defensive side of the ball.  The boys did well at points, and then struggled with some other aspects of the game."

Coach Bauer continued, "This group of kids worked really hard all season long and were a very fun group to have.  They know the areas of their games that need the most improvement between now and next year.  A lot of emphasis will need to be placed on developing those skills and abilities in the off season."

Seventh grade player Dakota Jameson stated, "I thought our game was a well-played game even though we did not come out with a win. We did not execute our plays but did other things right.  There is always room for more improvement on any team."

With the football season over, the junior high boys will start out their basketball season with their first game being held on Thursday, December 14th, at Bruning Davenport Shickley.  Good luck to the Mustangs, and congratulations to coaches Greg Iverson, Terry Bauer, and Nathan Dietz on a successful junior high football season.  The basketball team will be coached by Greg Iverson, while Terry Bauer and Nathan Dietz will be coaching the boys' high school basketball team.
