Senior Celebrates Last Game as Season Comes to an End
Mustangs Fall to Raiders

On Friday, October 21st, 2011, the Mustang football team celebrated Senior Night and their last game of the season. The night started with the announcement of senior R.J. Vanbuskirk, who was playing in his last high school football game. R.J. plans to attend college after high school but he is undecided as to where.
After the senior announcement, the game was in motion with the Mustangs receiving the ball to start the first quarter. Not being able to gain the first down, junior Jaydn Grabill punted the ball in which the visiting Lawrence/Nelson team pushed up the field to score a touchdown leading the Mustangs 7 to 0 after kicking the extra point. One more touchdown by the Raiders, and the first quarter ended with a score of 14 to 0, in favor of the visiting Lawrence/Nelson team.
Coming back to the field after half time, the Raiders scored three consecutive touchdowns to up the score 42 to 0. Determined to at least get on the board, Silver Lake junior Catarino Perez ran the ball 70 yards on a kick-off return to put the score at 42 to 6 at the end of the third quarter.
Leading into the fourth quarte., the Raiders jumped out yet again scoring on the Mustangs, which put the score at 48 to 6. Stepping up as freshmen, Journey Ericsson and Seyler Monroe both scored late in the fourth quarter with Journey scoring on a seven yard run and Seyler on a thirteen yard pass from junior quarterback Zach Polk.
With the loss, the Mustangs lost to the Raiders by the score of 48 to 20, finishing their season with one win and seven losses. With the football season over, the volleyball season prepares to enter their post-season play. The Lady Mustangs take on Harvard and Heartland Lutheran on Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30 and 7:30 P.M in Harvard before starting sub-districts on Monday, October 31st, at St. Cecilia. Congratulations to the men in maroon on their season, and good luck to the Lady Mustangs as they enter sub-district play!
