Experimenting to Win

On Tuesday, February 28th the Junior High students participated in a Science Fair at Silver Lake High School. Throughout the year the students had been working on a project that they chose with help from the website “Science Buddies” and science teacher Ms. Willicott. All judges at the Science Fair had a science background ranging from former and current science teachers to a higher education in the Science field.

 

In 7th grade the winners were; Honorable Mention-Kiersten Kober, 3rd place-Katelyn Karr, 2nd place-Trista Hanson, and 1st place-Brock Karr. In 8th grade the winners were; Honorable Mention-Madison Miller, 3rd place-Shaylen Beaty, 2nd place-Luke Swanson, and 1st place-Jenna Strampher.


For the day the overall winners were Shaylen Beaty with Honorable Mention, 3rd place-Luke Swanson, 2nd place-Brock Karr, and 1st place-Jenna Strampher. These students will go to a regional competition at Hastings College on March 14th. This is the first year that Silver Lake has hosted a Science Fair at the high school. Science teacher Ms. Willicot commented on the day saying, “All the students won because they all learned from this experience. It was a very big success.”
