Fun and Games for Dr. Seuss Week

Julie Jones

March 16, 2017

Silver Lake elementary enjoyed a week of dress-up fun throughout the week of February 27-March 2. On Marvelous Monday the kids were challenged to wear as many colors as they could. On Topsy

Turvy Tuesday, they enjoyed wearing hats and mismatched clothes. Free to Read Wednesday allowed the students to show of their freedom and wear red, white, and blue. With a short week, Thursday brought sleepy kids for Parents, Pancakes, and Pajama Day with students relishing in wearing their pjs to school.

At the end of each day, the students all met in the gym to read a book and do a fun activity that corresponded with the dress-up activity for that day. For the Marvelous Monday, the kids read ‘My Many Colored Days’ and played a game of tag with exercise balls. For Topsy Turvy Tuesday, they read ‘Cat in the Hat’ and the students had to balance a marshmallow in a spoon in a relay race. For Free to Read Day, the kids participated in another relay race, this time using red, white, and blue balloons. They had to put the balloon between their legs and run or jump from one end of the gym to the other. For Parent, Pancakes, and Pajamas on Thursday, the elementary parents were invited to join their students for breakfast. The parents were also invited to stay to read with their students and enjoy listening to ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ and ‘I’m Not Going to Get up Today’.

Coordinator Kari Sharp commented, “We had a great turnout with approximately 60 parents eating breakfast with us on Thursday. The kids always enjoy Dr. Seuss Week and we have great participation each year.” She also felt that Parents and Pancakes Day was a big hit and gives thanks to Mrs. Ewing for the great idea.
