NHS Officers Partner With Hope

Abigail Borgman

March 31, 2017

Four members of Silver Lake’s National Honor Society traveled to Kearney to volunteer for the annual St. Jude Radio-A-Thon at Hilltop Mall. Abigail Borgman, Nicolle Hammer, Corey Conway, Jared Lewis, and NHS sponsor Mrs. Heldt spent Thursday morning taking calls and donations for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Money raised at this event through Partners In Hope and other donors goes to the Hospital and children in need. These donations ensure that those who seek care at St. Jude’s never pay for treatment, and help to advance medical research. NHS officers and Mrs. Heldt took over 30 calls for donations while at the event, and helped raise over $7,000. One Partner In Hope is able to support one blood transfusion or one CT scan.

National Honor Society Vice President Nicolle Hammer commented on the event, “I honestly think this is one of the best things our school does for community service, and I’m so grateful to be a part of helping children and families in need.” NHS sponsor Mrs. Heldt also shared her thoughts on the day, “It was a great opportunity to give back to such a worthy cause.
