May 15, 2017

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, 19 students graduated and became alumni of Silver Lake. As family and friends filled the gym, the graduation ceremony began at 4 o’clock. The seniors made their way to their reserved seats as they walked down the aisle with the processional “Pomp and circumstance.

The beginning of the ceremony was marked as Pastor Loren Cooper opened with a prayer. Following the prayer, class Secretary Skyler Ericsson began with his “Welcome” speech with school counselor Chris Sluka following as he read off the scholarships all of the seniors had worked very hard to earn.

After Mr.Sluka was finished, Corey Conway talked about Kindergarten through 6th grade and the memories made in that time, followed by class President Abigail Borgman with the memories made at the high school in grades 7-12. Class Vice-President Nicolle Hammer then gave her “Looking Ahead” speech and finally, Treasurer Jared Lewis then gave a “Thank you” speech to everyone who had helped the class of 2017 get through their school years successfully.

Following the speeches, a class video was played, showing the seniors from baby to school years to now. The class then walked out into the gym to hug their families and give out flowers.

Superintendent Mel Crowe presented the class of 2017 and the moment everyone had been waiting for, the handing out of diplomas, followed with Leon Lutkemeier, Board of Education President, shaking each graduate’s hand as he gave them their diploma.

Finally, Pastor Loren Cooper closed out the graduation followed by the recessional while the song “Young” by Kenny Chesney played as the alumni danced their way out to their family and friends waiting outside for pictures.
