January 11, 2018

In the midst of all the holiday shenanigans, the Lady Mustangs once again found themselves back at the high school for the annual Holiday Classic Tournament. They started the tournament with a one point loss in overtime against the Alma Cardinals with the final score 31-30. Abbie Skupa led the team as the top scorer with a total of 9 points. She also play great defense with a total of 10 defensive rebounds. Behind Skupa, Elizabeth Trausch came in with 7 defensive rebounds and 4 offensive rebounds. Coach Joshua Drake had this to say about the game: “The girls played hard and showed some mental toughness being able to come back late in the game and force overtime. We have to continue to put ourselves in those situations so we can learn to finish games.”

The next day, the Lady Mustangs finished their part of the tournament with a successful win against the Shelton Bulldogs, improving their record to 2-7. The Lady Mustangs took an 8 point lead with the final score of 34-26. Abbie Skupa once again displayed her superb basketball skills by contributing 20 points to the Mustangs’ score, though each player worked together to stay ahead of the Bulldogs throughout the entire game.
