FFA Activate and Leverage

On Friday, March 17th and Saturday, March 18th thirteen Silver Lake FFA members attended Activate and Leverage in Kearney. They attended many sessions that included different activities. TVC Band

On Monday, March 20, 2017 the Mrs. Schulte and the Silver Lake band traveled to Shelton for TVC band. While they were there, the band had three session of large group practices, a separate session of just the Silver Lake band practicing their individual song “Try Everything” from Zootopia and then had a concert with all of the bands that night.   Music director Calyn Schulte commented on the event, . . .

SL Track Starts the Season at Doane

The Silver Lake track team kicked off their season by traveling to Doane for their first meet on Thursday, March 16. Senior Skyler Ericsson placed sixth in Long Jump, while junior Mark Thurston placed fourth in the same event. Senior Corey Conway placed third in the mile and fifth in the 800, while freshman Makayla Dinkler received fifth in long jump. District Runner-Up CHAMPS!

It was a phenomenal turnout at district speech on March 14 for the Silver Lake Mustangs Speech Team. For the first time in several years, Silver Lake had a total five students qualify for state. Senior Abigail Borgman placed fifth in serious, so unfortunately didn't qualify, although she did place second in Informative, qualifying Abigail for state. Fun and Games for Dr. Seuss Week

Silver Lake elementary enjoyed a week of dress-up fun throughout the week of February 27-March 2. On Marvelous Monday the kids were challenged to wear as many colors as they could. On Topsy Turvy Tuesday, they enjoyed wearing hats and mismatched clothes. Free to Read Wednesday allowed the students to show of their freedom and wear red, white, and blue. SILVER LAKE COMPETES AT ACTIONS DAY

Silver Lake was one of 28 schools to participate at the annual ACTIONS Day competition.  Over 700 students were present to take 40 tests on everything from Agriculture to Mythology to World Geography. Abigail Borgman led the Mustangs by earning two trophies during the competition.  Abigail placed first in Health and she finished third in American Government. District Speech

Congratulations to the Silver Lake Speech Team for placing runner-up at Districts. Silver Lake has 5 state qualifiers- Abigail Borgman, Curro Gutierrez, Taran Hanson, Nadia Trausch and Tynan Degroff. Congratulations and Go Mustangs. State Speech is  Friday March 25th  at Kearney.

Silver Lake Elementary One School, One Book

The Silver Lake Elementary students started their new book for One Book One School, on March 7 th .  Helen Smith helped introduce the book Hank ZipZer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever Day of the Iguana by bringing anoles and bearded dragon reptiles to compare their life with that of an iguana.  At the end of her presentation, she invited each student to pet a bearded dragon.  Some enjoyed this experience . . .

SL Quiz Bowl Takes First in Franklin

The Silver Lake quiz bowl team traveled to Franklin on Tuesday, March 8, to compete in the annual Franklin Invite. The Mustangs’ first match was against the Bertrand Vikings, and Silver Lake was able to come out on top,  35-20. After winning their first match, SL continued in the winner’s bracket, next taking on the Shelton Bulldogs. The Mustangs had a great match, scoring 70 points, while holding Shelton to zero. . . .
