Everything You Need to Know About the School Website.
Layout. The new school website contains a wealth of information that is constantly being updated. There are several avenues for finding this information on the website. On the front page, there are links to current featured articles and other headlines. The front page also lists each section across the top of the page (District, High School, Elementary School, Faculty & Staff, Academics, Athletics, and Board of Education), and clicking on a section name will bring up a page with the sub-sections of that main section listed on the left. The sub-sections on the left also contain their own sub-sections that are viewed as fly-out menus when you scroll your mouse over the sub-section name. The buttons on the right side of every page on the website allow for further navigation of the site as well as quick links to some of the most popular websites used by Silver Lake students and educators.
Content. By using the methods described above, you can navigate to articles and information about Silver Lake’s board of education, administration, faculty, staff, and students. The district section includes information about the administration, the state of the schools report, guidance counselor, technology, and alumni. The high school section contains links to articles about honor roll, current assignments for each grade, high school faculty pages, high school organizations and the high school media center. The elementary school section has sub-sections for each grade, each teacher, and elementary school events. Under the faculty & staff section, there are forms for teachers, biographies of faculty and staff members, and schedules, teaching videos, and lesson plans for many of the faculty and staff. The academics section contains course descriptions and any articles about individual subject areas, and the athletics section covers all sports at Silver Lake. Contact information and biographies for each school board member can be found in the board of education section, as well as school board meeting schedules, minutes, and agendas.
Buttons. The buttons on the right side of every page are an easy gateway to other websites or other articles on our website. The Activities Calendar button takes you to the school calendar, which contains lunch menus and all school activities. There are many options for viewing the calendar, including month at a glance and printable view. The PowerSchool button takes you to the PowerSchool login page where parents and students can use their user names and passwords to login and see their grades. The Pony Express button downloads a current file of the school’s monthly newsletter, the Pony Express. Students and parents can access all assignments for the current week by clicking on the Assignments button. The Counselor’s Corner button opens Mr. Sluka’s counselor page, which has links for scholarship applications that can be downloaded and filled out with a computer as well as some career and college planning websites. Mr. Walburn’s Between the Lines button opens his monthly article that is also featured in the Pony Express. The Staff Directory button opens a page that contains contact information for all faculty and staff. Clicking on the name of a faculty or staff member will take you to that person’s faculty page, which links to his/her biography and other information. Every Friday, the high school weekly and elementary weekly are updated. The State Report Card button takes you to the Nebraska Department of Education’s State of the Schools Report for Silver Lake Public Schools. The Board of Education button opens a page with a picture of all board of education members and the most recent board meeting minutes. Clicking on the name of a board member will take you to his/her information page, which also contains links for that person’s biography and contact information. The other buttons on the right of each page open links to other websites that are frequently used by our students and staff. Gaggle.net is a safe and free e-mail service that students use to communicate with each other and with teachers about school. The Accelerated Reader website allows students to login to their accounts to see how many points they have and what tests they have taken. NebraskAccess is a website with free access to many magazines and journals, and World Book Online allows students to log in to World Book Encyclopedia. The homepages for ESU9, the Nebraska Department of Education, the Blue Hill Leader, NSAA, and Huskerland Preps are the other sites linked to by our buttons on each page.
Summer Updates. The school website will be your source of information during the summer months. We will keep it updated with important information such as school supply lists and summer activities and events.
We take suggestions, pictures, and write ups for the website. You can put them in the Website Drop Box on the school server, or e-mail depley@esu9.org or kbonifas@esu9.org.
