A Pirate Christmas

Silver Lake Elementary Christmas Concert Once Again A Huge Success

by Morgan Nicole Hill

December 12, 2011

The Silver Lake Elementary Christmas Program was held on Friday, December 9th, after being postponed due to the weather the night before, and it was once again, a huge success! The theme for this year's program was "A Pirate Christmas," and the painted backdrop was nothing short of gorgeous!

The program started out with the band playing a few songs, followed up by the kindergarten, first, and second grade classes then singing a total of six songs: "Christmas Stockings," "Must Be Santa," "Up On The Housetop," "Jolly Old St. Nicholas," "Night of Silence," and "Hear Those Bells."  Along with their singing, the children incorporated musical instruments and body movements with their songs to entertain the audience that much more.

Following a short intermission, the third through sixth graders took the stage to present their annual Christmas musical, which was entitled “A Pirate Christmas” this year.  This year's pick was a play about the adventures of Santa and his elves running into a group of pirates, written by John Jacobson and Robert Emerson.  Along with the play, the children sang seven songs: "Island Christmas," "Pirates All Are We," "Give and Take," "White Beard," "Cool to Be Cool," "Blimey Carols," and "A Pirate's Christmas."  A duet was along sang by Jeffrey Hill and Wyatt Griess entitlted "Christmas Joy."  The kids sang, acted, and danced their way through the show, making the evening a huge success once again.

Following the concert, Santa himself made an appearance with bags of candy for all of the children!  The children enjoyed sitting on Santa's lap and telling him what they would like for Christmas this year.  Jeffrey Hill, who played Santa in this year's production, stated, "Playing Santa in the play was a great experience, and I had fun doing it.  I thought it was one of the best plays we've ever done."

Kudos to Mrs. Janice Dart, elementary and junior - senior high music instructor, and to her students, as the program was once again an amazing fete!  Mark your calendars for the junior-senior high concert which is set for Tuesday, December 20th, at the high school in Roseland at 7 PM.
