A Day of Spelling

Luke Swanson

January 31, 2018

On Tuesday, January 23, the Webster County Spelling Bee was held in Bladen. The spelling bee was made up of three written spelling rounds, knocking students out each round. When there were only 10 students still standing, Mr. Arntt read them a word and they were required to spell it orally. If the student spelled to word correctly they stayed in the competition. Four students from Silver Lake made it to the oral round, who were Landon Nabower, Samantha Bonifas, Sydney Bartels and Tony Thomas. Spelling Bee Participant Samantha Bonifas said “We represented Silver Lake very well by trying our hardest and progressing to the further rounds. The spelling bee teaches me to have more confidence, especially during the oral rounds. The 2018 spelling bee was an enjoyable experience, and I hope to participate next year.” The overall winner of the day was Keaton Mackin for Blue Hill, who will have a chance to compete at the State Spelling Bee.
