Arrows Flying

Arlo Thayer

April 10, 2018

Arrows were flying in Lincoln on Saturday, March 24, 2018, as the Silver Lake Archery team headed out for the State Competition. This years team was younger for Silver Lake, with a few having experience from previous years helping to set the standards high again. There were three scoring divisions, which were an Elementary division-maximum 5th grade, Middle division-maximum 8th grade, and High School division-maximum 12th grade. Starting in January, the team started learning the 11 steps to archery success and the use of string bows. This helped the archers become proficient with the Genesis bow and the Easton Aluminum arrows. The team practiced safety as well by learning the whistle commands at the 10 and 15-meter distances. These safety tips were used at practice and at the Nebraska NASP tournament. This year’s team had twelve elementary students, five middle school, and one high school archer who competed with 800 plus shooters. This year’s team did very well and improved from last years rating. The team is excited about next year’s time to have a bow in hand. Thank you, parents, for supporting your Silver Lake Archery Team.
