Five Schools, One Band

Luke Swanson

March 21, 2018

On Monday, March 19th, TVC Band which consisted of Franklin, Kenesaw, Red Cloud, Shelton, and Silver Lake all came together to form one immense band. This year TVC Band was held at home, Silver Lake. Clinician Dr. Alber from UNK took time out of his busy schedule to conduct this band made of 185 students. These five teams came together for an afternoon to practice four songs that would be performed later that night. These four songs were Eagles Awake, Grace, The Big Circus March, and Zeal. For the whole afternoon, the band members practiced these songs with people they don’t normally play with. Once they got the songs perfected, each school had a chance to work on their individual piece. At six o’clock there was a concert held for the public to come watch. The concert started out with each school playing their own individual song. Silver Lake performed a piece called Daydreaming. After each school played their individual piece, they all came together to conduct the songs they had been practicing for hours ahead of time. Silver Lake Music Director Calyn Schulte said “Monday night’s Conference Band was a huge success. The students worked incredibly hard all day and learned a lot from Dr. Alber.  The final concert sounded amazing! I could not be more proud of the Silver Lake students and their performance. It was truly a great event!”
