Always counting on Math Counts

Ashley Jensby

February 19, 2018

For those of you who don’t know, Math Counts is like a spelling bee; a team of students go to another school, but instead of words to spell, they have math problems to solve. The Silver Lake Math Counts Team has been practicing a lot of math problems and strategies since December, and on February 14,  junior high students Keirsten Kober, Brock Karr, Trista Hanson, Samantha Bonifas, Madelyn Strong, Lexi Wengler, Eric Blythe, Taiton Trausch, Rehgan Miller, and Georgiann tenBensel all went to UNK to solve some math. The team stayed in Kearney from 10:00 to 12:30, getting 16th in ranking, and on their way home, the team stopped by Culver’s to get a treat. Math Teacher Stacie Heldt, stated, “I think the kids did the best they could and were a fun group to take out of the building.” Team member Kiersten Kober said, “We all did very well contributing and working as a team. As individuals, I think we all did very well on our own tests.”
