Silver Lake FFA Takes Indianapolis

Brooke Kamler

November 13, 2017

On October 24 eight Silver Lake FFA members and their advisor, Mrs. Curlo, headed to Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention. They departed from Grand Island at ten at night to start their long 16 hour drive there. They arrived in Indianapolis around 2 in the afternoon and eventually headed to the Convention Center. The members ventured off into the Career Fair and explored some of the booths that were there. They talked to some college booths to see what they wanted to do with their future. They ended their day with the chapter supper and bonded together and planned out the rest of the week, and ended their night with the Nebraska dance at the hotel. The following day, Thursday, the members attended the second general session of the 90th annual National FFA convention. After the general session they finished their day with workshops about parli pro and leadership. On Friday the members all attended a tour along with many other Nebraska FFA chapter. The bus tour started out at the Louisville Slugger Factory, where they toured the factory and learned how bats are made. After they ventured through the gift shop, they hopped back onto the bus to head to Churchill Downs. There they toured to see where the race horses and riders saddle their horses and saw the race track itself. They learned some history on the track before they headed off back to their hotels to end their night. Saturday morning they spent their last couple hours at the National FFA mall and convention center. Finally, the members made their way back home on their 16 hour drive home, only stopping a couple times to fill up on food and snacks. The Silver Lake FFA members ended their long weekend with many great ideas to bring back to the chapter.
