Keeping It Safe

Abbie Skupa

September 27, 2018

On September 19th, 2018 the Silver Lake FFA members volunteered at the annual Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety day at the Webster County Fairgrounds. Farm Safety day is for all Silver Lake students pre-k through 7th grade. FFA members Canyen Jameson and Derek Zubrod helped teach Operation Life Saver station that taught kids about oncoming trains. Addie Hartman and Taran Hanson taught kids about hearing disabilities. Chris Trausch, Elizabeth Trausch and Blaine Simonton helped teach kids about semis and blind spots. Trenton Schmidt helped the UNL Nebraska Extension teach about ATV safety. Anthony Niemeyer and Logan Greenough helped teach fire safety with the Webster County Fire Department. Jaden Lewis and Madison Miller taught 811 which teaches students and adults to call diggers hotline before digging. Members Hope Gomez, Tommy Grimes, Lexi Allen, Jocelyn Wahl, Marcos Gomez, and Seirra Watts-Hofstetter all led groups around the fairgrounds to the different stations. Paperwork was taken care of by Makayla Dinkler and Abbie Skupa and Brooke Kamler and Dalton McCarter helped out in the kitchen. The day was filled with great safety information and a big thank you goes out to Shirley Ewing for coordinating this day for 23 years.
