Mustangs Fall to Red Hornets in Season-Ender

Julie Jones

October 30, 2018

The Mustang football season came to an end on Friday, October 19 as the team took a heartbreaking loss to the Heartland-Lutheran Red Hornets with a score of 12-78. Scoring for the Mustangs were Tommy Grimes and Zane Journey with one touchdown a piece. Journey finished the night with 108 total yards followed by Grimes for 74 yards, Logan Greenough for 30, and Blaine Simonton for 9 total yards. The team came together for 13 tackles in the game; contributing were Casey Cassell, Canyen Jameson, Simonton, Journey, Greenough, and Dalton McCarter.

When asked how he felt the team improved throughout the season, first-year head coach Kyle Conroy commented: “Coming into this season we had two guys on the team who were starters last season so there was a lot of inexperience. The last 4 games we really started to click as a team and played our best football. No matter what the result was on Friday night, on Monday the guys were ready to get back to work and get better.” Talking about his first season as head coach, Conroy also said: “ I have been around football my whole life, but this year was definitely a learning experience. No matter how the season goes, you never want it to end, but I’m excited for the next few years of Silver Lake football.”
