Elementary Quiz Bowl

Kari Sharp

November 26, 2018

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, the Silver Lake Elementary quiz bowl team hosted their annual Silver Lake Invite by welcoming Frankin, Kenesaw, and Red Cloud schools to the elementary.  This year’s Silver Lake team consists of sixth graders Casey Conway, Clay Plambeck, Cody Plambeck, Jeremy Sharp, Paxton Sorensen, Katelyn Strampher and fifth graders Beau Bonifas, and MaKenna Karr.  Two alternates, Brandon Trausch and Lanham Skrdlant, have also been practicing with the team.  The team was nervous for their first meet of the season.  They worked together to defeat Franklin in their first round. In the next two rounds, our buzzers went cold, and the team suffered a defeat to both Kenesaw and Red Cloud.  Kenesaw, Red Cloud, and Silver Lake will meet again in Kenesaw on December 10th at 1:00 p.m.  Silver Lake will also travel to the ESU 9 meet on February 5, 2019.

Last week the team competed in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl which is a computerized meet against other schools in the midwest.  The students work together to answer 100 questions on various questions on topics including current events, math, history, science, language, reading, and much more.  Speed and accuracy are rewarded in this type of meet, and we were pleased with our results.  We will participate in the America Answer’s computerized meet in April.
