On January 28, the Junior High Mustang boys traveled to Red Cloud to take on their longtime rivals, the Red Cloud Warriors. Jake Knehans led the Mustangs with 6 points. The boys put a stop to Red Cloud’s best shooter after half-time. Braden Karr, going 50% with his free-throws, helped the team with the close score. Falling short with a final score being 27-16, the Mustangs suffered a loss. The boys pushed themselves but just could not get the shots to fall enough for them to pull through and get the win.

On February 2, the Silver Lake boys Junior High team traveled to Blue Hill for another fun filled basketball game. First up was the “B” team, putting on a good show for both Bobcat and Mustang fans. Holding the Bobcats for the first quarter the score was 0-0. The Silver Lake boys did not make any points the first half, however, that changed at halftime for the boys. Coming out of the second quarter, the score was 0-10 Bobcats. The boys knew they had to kick it in gear right then. Only scoring 8 points in the third quarter, the boys held the Bobcats to only scoring 7 points. The 4th quarter was a great turn around for the boys. Tying the game up in the last minute, the Mustangs and Bobcats went into overtime with the score of 17-17. Draining a free throw in overtime, Adrian Gomez clinched the 18-17 win over the Bobcats. Following the “B” game, the “A” team took the court for their shot at the Bobcats. The Mustangs got a slow start trailing Blue Hill 9-0 in the first quarter. Keaton Karr and Cody Pankoke got the Mustangs scoring started, putting up 5 points in the second quarter. However, the Bobcats added 13 before the half, leaving the score at 22-5. The second half faired better for the Mustangs, with the help of a three from Jake Knehans the Mustangs outscored the Bobcats 16-11. The surge wasn’t enough though, as the Mustangs fell to the Bobcats with the final score of 33-22. The Mustangs will finish their season on Saturday, February 9, against Christ Lutheran at Silver Lake.
