Lady Mustangs End Season with a Tough Loss

By Samantha Bonifas

February 18, 2019

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Sandy Creek to kick off sub-district play against the Red Cloud Warriors. This was the teams’ fourth matchup against each other this season. The Mustangs won the first two regular season games, but the Warriors won the third game in the first round of the TVC tournament. Makayla Dinkler said that the anticipation going into the game was greater than any game the team had played before. To start the game, the Mustangs pulled out to a 7-4 lead. Silver Lake kept the momentum going through the second quarter and led 11-9 at halftime. The Warriors scored 26 more points in the second half while the Mustangs fell short with 21.  Unfortunately, this tough, 35-32 loss ended Silver Lake’s season. Abbie Skupa was a key player in the intense game as she led the team with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Katelyn Karr added 4 assists to keep the offense rolling while Dinkler and Elizabeth Trausch followed with 6 points each. Trausch pulled down 7 rebounds as well. The Mustangs finished their season with a 14-8 record. Dinkler, a junior, is proud of the improvement from last year to this year. She explained that the team was more driven and disciplined than in past years which brought them to a better record.
