Sub-Districts Don't Go as Planned for the Mustangs

Madison Miller

March 13, 2019

Going into sub-districts, the Mustang Men were hungry for a third win against the Warriors. With a tough loss to the Shelton Bulldogs just three days before, the Mustangs were ready to bounce back. The Mustang boys had the Silver Lake fans on the edge of their seat with an end of the first quarter score of 9 to 11 with the Mustangs being up by 2. In the second and third quarter, the Mustangs got the groove of things on the court, scoring 28 points to the Warriors 12. Blaine Simonton hit 2 of his 5 three-pointers in the third quarter moving the Mustang men ahead by even more. In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs weren’t done yet and were on a roll. They scored 23 points to the Warriors 10 in the last quarter making it a very exciting win for the Mustangs. Alex Ehrman and Blaine Simonton both had five three-pointers both being team leaders; Ehrman with 23 and Simonton added 15.

The boys had some intense nerves going into the second round of sub-districts after losing to Loomis earlier in the season. In the first quarter, the Mustangs were able to keep up with Loomis making it a very intense first quarter with a score of 10 to 5 with the Wolves up.In the second and third quarter, the boys lost their touch and weren’t able to keep up with Loomis any longer. The Mustangs scored 22 points to the Wolves 33 which dug them into a hole they couldn’t get out of. In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs only scored nine points to the Wolves 17 with a heartbreaking loss to end their season. Senior Alex Ehrman got sentimental about his last game. His advice for upcoming players is not to take any game for granted and that if you stick with the process, the sky is the limit for what the team can do. Alex has been a regular lead scorer. During subs, he scored 12 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. Oakley Rosno was the next leading scorer with 9 points and 3   as well. Logan Greenough also had an impressive game as a first-time starter with 7 rebounds and 6 points.
