Addie Hartman

March 18, 2019

On Monday, March 11, the Silver Lake Speech Team woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed to make their way to Loup City to compete in the D-2 district speech meet. This was the meet that determined who would move on to the state competition. The members spent their day presenting their speeches to their judges to the best of their abilities. They were able to see how hard much their hard work paid off during awards when the team received 22 total medals. Finishing in the top three guaranteed a place at state.

Senior Duet, Alex Ehrman and Johnny Borgman received first overall. Sophomore OID, Jenna Strampher and Blaine Simonton, received 6th; the Senior OID consisting of teammates Addie Hartman, Taylor Nabower, Lexi Allen, Taran Hanson, and Brooke Kamler came in 3rd, with Brock Karr, Tyler Cumpston, Cierra Mankhey, and Trista Hanson in the Freshman OID coming right behind them in 4th. In the Poetry category, Emmily Freitag placed 2nd, Elizabeth Trausch placed 3rd, and Zane Journey came in 6th. In Humorous, Journey came out on top with Ashley Jensby close behind in 3rd. Taran Hanson came out on top in Persuasive, receiving 1st overall. Nadia Trausch medaled 5th in Serious, Brock Karr 6th in Extemporaneous, Julie Jones 6th in Informative, and Taylor Nabower 4th in Informative.

All of the speech team members put in numerous hours of practice, and it definitely showed at the district competition. The team will take 11 people to state and will have 7 different pieces performing. Good luck to all performers at State Speech and a huge congrats to all those who medaled at Districts, bringing the Silver Lake Speech Team the Runner Up plaque.
